Health Effects

PFBA (perfluorobutanoic acid) is a short-chain PFAS that can affect the thyroid and kidneys. While it is eliminated from the body faster than longer-chain PFAS, it is extremely persistent in the environment.

How PFBA Gets Into Water

Used as a replacement for longer-chain PFAS in manufacturing. Found in industrial wastewater, near chemical plants, and in areas where firefighting foam has been used.

How to Remove PFBA

Reverse osmosis is the most effective method. Short-chain PFAS like PFBA are harder to remove with activated carbon alone — RO or nanofiltration is recommended.

Recommended: Reverse Osmosis (RO)

Reverse osmosis systems remove up to 99% of PFAS compounds. Recommended for homes with detected PFAS.
